About Us
CoolTop Properties, S.A., a Nicaraguan corporation, was formed in 2007 to be the owner of an Eco-Tourism facility. Most of 2007 was spent looking for the right location for the facility. This page offers information about the major participants in the project.
In late 2007 we found the current property. It was different from what we had been looking for but it was clearly amazing. It forced us to re-think what we were building. What you see described here is a result of years of thinking what could be build in Central America that meets our ethical as well as personal goals. As we continue to develop the facility, remaining in tune with the environment is our primary goal.
On the practical end, we have to figure out how to "pay the bills" without deviation from our primary goal. After a lot of planning we are confident we can do that as well as offer something unique for our guests to enjoy. Let's look at some of the ways we can be different but fit into the area.
- We are located in a preserve. That restricts what we can do as far as development. We see that as a plus—there are some rules that point us in the right direction. For example, to cut down a tree, we need a reforestation plan.
- We want to hire as much as possible from the local community. That means we can bring money and develop skills in an area where there has been little opportunity.
- Our neighbor to the north, La Garnacha, is an organic farming community. By using organic products as much as possible in our restaurant, we offer a local market for La Garnacha.
- Our farm is intended to create new crop ideas and augment farm income potential in the area.
- Our grey water treatment system (currently under development) conserves water in the area and offers a model for others to learn from.
Where Do You Fit In?
Some of you are probably wondering where you, a potential customer, fit in.
Photos
All of the banner photos at the top of the page were taken from within the facility. Some are of the property and others are views you can get from the property.
Other photos (crops, for example) are either taken in our facility or are representative of what you would see. The photos in the Tisey section are, of course, taken in other areas of the Tisey Reserve.
