Caretaker's House

When we purchased the property it included a caretaker's house. Rustic is how a real estate agent might have described it. Falling apart is more appropriate.

Clearly, an update was in order. In May 2008 we started the renovation. The rotten wood corner posts get replaced with steel reinforced concrete. New walls on the kitchen, a new roof for everything and even a tiled floor instead of just dirt.

The house is located next to the main trail and adjacent to the coffee and fruit growing area. It will become the "office" for horse rentals and general information about the trails.

The changes are looking pretty significant as of 19 May. The painted wall shows the previous height. We are raising the ceiling, and replacing all the wooden posts with reinforced concrete. One scary thing is that the concrete "beams" that were on top of the brick walls did not have any rebar in them.

About a month later it was almost done. Some floor finishing needed, doors and paint.

This is the finished house minus the paint. Quite a bit different from the first photo.
