Tisey

The CoolTop Eco-Resort is located in a national reserve called Tisey-Estanzuela (Reserva Natural Tisey-Estanzuela). The reserve is managed by FIDER, Fundación de Investigación y Desarrollo Rural). In these pages we want to tell you about the reserve itself. That information includes the plants, birds and animals of the reserve as well and general information on the environment and about our neighbors.

The reserve was established in 1991 by Executive Order number 42-19, Declaración de Áreas Protegidas en varios Cerros Macizos, Montañosos Volcanes y Lagunas del País. FIDER, an NGO, is in charge of inplementation of the plan.

Elevation of the preserve varies from 600 and 1608 meters. The average annual temperature is 21.5°C at an elevation of 815 meters and drops 0.6°C for each 100 meters of altitude increase. The highest temperatures are in March, the lowest in December.

Tisey and Eco-Tourism

You may be wondering how our facility fits into a Reserve. Well, in the management plan, one of the sub-programs is eco-tourism. Rather than extensive government management, the idea is to establish eco-tourism facilities within the reserve.

The presence of these facilities does two things:

  1. Offers educational opportunities to help people understand what is in the reserve and how it needs to be managed.
  2. Offers a presence that prevents unauthorized activities such as poaching.

We have good relations with the park rangers of FIDER in La Garnacha. For example, if we are going to cut up a downed tree with a chainsaw, we notify them in advance. This helps them separate authorized use from unauthorized making their job easier.
