City of San Nicolas
The city of San Nicolas is a valley located about 15km southwest of Estelí.
The population of the urban area is about 2000. Besides the Alcaldia, you will find schools, a hardware store, and other small tiendas.
San Nicolas is connected to the Pan American highwas by an excellent paved road. Buses run regularly to Estelí.
Area
The CoolTop Community is located in the area of San Nicolas as well as in the Tisey reserve. For someone from the U.S., Estelí is the equivalent of the state and San Nicolas is the equivalent of a county. Like in many counties in the U.S., they share their name with the largest city. For example, the city of Los Angeles, California is located within Los Angeles country.
San Nicolas
San Nicolas is both a political jurisdiction (Alcaldia) and the name of the major town in the area. Parts of this jurisdiction, including CoolTop, fall within the Tisey reserve. There are also other parts of San Nicolas that are not part of the reserve.
